Flowpex piping system has one type of crimp fitting for all applications therefore one type of hand crimping tool is available with four different crimping heads 16mm-20mm-26mm-32mm. A hand reamer/gauging tool is available and must be used after the cutting of the pipe. Internal bending springs in all sizes are also available.

No. Flowpex gas sizing tables are included in our Flowpex Installation manual. They are specific to the Flowpex system.
The reason for the difference in sizing between Flowpex and copper is in the fact that the Flowpex fittings are internal as opposed to external for copper.
However, Flowpex has less co-efficient of friction than copper with improved lamina gas flow and no boundary effect, meaning apart from the fitting restrictions, the Flowpex pipe when tested was found to be far superior to copper with no measurable pressure drop over 50 metres.

Yes, as Flowpex pipe is black it can be used where it is exposed to direct sunlight.
The following is an extract from the Forward on page 4 of AS 4176-1994 which states:
“Polyethylene or cross-linked polyethylene macro-composite pipes which are either natural or of colours other than black are not suitable for use or extended storage where exposed to direct sunlight”.
So if you have installations that will be exposed to direct sunlight, think of none other than the Flowpex system.

Flowpex will not sag between fixings and always look neat and tidy. Flowpex do not manufacture fixings for the Flowpex system as all existing fixings will suit the Flowpex pipe.
Yes, Flowpex pipe is very flexible and in the smaller diameter pipes bending can be done by hand. However, when bending large diameter pipes or when a very small radius is required, the use of internal springs is recommended.
Bend supports are necessary with other systems but not for Flowpex. Once the bend has been made it will stay in place unsupported.
Yes. Flowpex to copper flared connectors have been manufactured in 16mm & 20mm sizes. Simply cut the copper pipe—place the flared nut onto the pipe-flare the pipe then tighten the flared nut to the fitting body. For sizes above 20mm refer to our fitting range contained in the Installer’s Manual.
Not at this stage. In AS 5601-2004 Gas Installations on page 33 Table 3.1 states that composite pipe is not permitted for use in a final connection to an appliance. Typically you would run Flowpex to a gas cock, for a cooker or heater and make your final connection using an approved connector. When connecting instantaneous hot water heaters, Flowpex can be installed to the gas cock then a union to the heater-the union is the final connection in this case.
Yes, it is necessary to remove the burred edge after the cutting of the pipe. This will assist in the assembly of the joint and avoid potential damage or dislodgement of the O-rings. The use of the reamer/gauging tool will comply with the warranty requirements.
Yes. Gas meters vary from State to State so the connection to the meter could be male or female, in any case we have several fittings in our range that will allow for a direct connection to the meter.
All threads on Flowpex fittings either male or female are BSP threads which is a universal thread. The threads on all of our male fittings are tapered and therefore comply with requirements contained in AS 5601 3.2.3 Prohibited fittings on page 25 (running/parallel thread).

The use of grommets is not required as the outer layer of Flowpex acts as an insulator in itself. There are saddling clips available that sit in the hole of the metal frame which allows the pipe to pass through them.
